As part of the Alberta Challenge, six Apprentice coaches (one per team) are selected to provide aspiring female coaches with development opportunities through the U16 Team Alberta Female High Performance Program. For any females interested in learning about coaching or who are considering coaching in the future, this program allows you to learn from and engage with the Alberta Challenge Coaching Staffs and the Coach Mentor throughout the short-term competition process.
The Apprentice Coach Program provides a safe environment for female coaches to:
- Develop coaching skills
- Transition from playing to coaching
- Understand the principles of coaching in short-term competition
- Foster an interest in coaching female hockey
- Learn from others and create connections
All Apprentice Coaches are expected to commit to the following activities:
- Apprentice Coach Program Introduction: January (Virtual)
- Team Planning Conference Calls: January-March
- Regional Camps: April (weekend), north and south region locations
- Alberta Challenge: May (five days), Red Deer
